This sacred location, where one experiences the lively presence of the Lord, is an ancient land of great penances by great sages of the Shreedatta Sampradaya and the Shreenath Sampradaya. It is said that Bhagwan Shreeparashuram, had given 'darshan' to Shreegorakshanath and had guided him on the path of Shreevidya' at the very spot where the present temple is located. The world famous Saint, Most Revered Sadguru Shree Mama Saheb Deshpande, who had the backing of the Shreedatta Sampradaya, Shreenatha Sampradaya and the Shreebhagwat Sampradaya, had a divine vision of the Lord and as per that vision he discovered the place and on 8th Narch 1990 he installed the life size idol Paramhamsa Parivrajakacharya Shreemad Nrusimha Saraswatee Swamee Maharaj, who is considered at the second incarnation of Bhagwan Shreedattatreya during the Kaliyuga. The management of the establishment of this Shreekshetra is done by Shreepad Seva Mandal, which is a registered Trust.

Shreedattajayantee Celebration
The most important event celebrated here is Bhagwan Shreedattatreya Jayantee. The entire Temple and the surounding area is decorated on this day. On that day morning the 'Padukas' of Most Revered Sadguru Shri. Mama Maharaj are brought here in procession in a Palanquin starting from the village of Vihe. They are received here with great reverence. In the evening the portion from 'Shreegurucharitra', depicting the birth of Lord Dattatreya is read in the presence of hundreds of devotees of Lord Dattatreya. This is followed by the evening 'Aratee'. After this the ceremony of taking the Palanquin of the Lord around the temple takes place, with great enthusiasm and vigor, in the open place around the temple. Next day morning the programme of a discourse and Mahaprasad, for all the attendees, takes place in the huge pendal erected in the open ground at the base of the hill. The members of Shreepad Seva Mandal and devotees, residing the region from Chiplun to Karad, are present in large numbers here for this event.
Weather
The climate here is cool throughout the year because of the height. Even though the months of March and April constitute the summer the cool breeze cools down the weather early in the mornings and in the evenings. Due to proximity of the place from the Mountain Range Top, the yearly rainfall here is about 250 to 350 inches on an average. The stormy winds, waterfalls formed by water cascading down the hill and clouds floating low remind us of the Himalayas in the rainy seasons.
Wild Life
Amongst the eighteen regions having maximum biological diversity in the whole world, the Sahyadri Mountain Ranges in Maharashtra are notably included. The forests in the Koyna Valley are considered amongst in best in the Western Maharashtra. But these forests are deteriorating very fast because of excessive felling of trees and commercial exploitation. Shreekshetra Dattadham is located in this very region. The forest cover in this area has increased rapidly after the establishment of this temple. Shreepad Seva Mandal has plans for the further forestation of this place and to make it a sacred temple forest consisting of useful trees like Oudumbar, Kuntha, Karmal, Goinda. Jamun, Amla, Apata, Thorny Pangara, Banana, Pimparee, Ashta, Kokum, Shivan, Shendari, Mango, Anjan, Amberi, Padal, Hirada, Behada, Ain etc. and beautiful flowering plants like orchids, Medicinal Plants like Shatavaree, Shikekaee, Pushkarmoola, Dhayatee, Nagakeshar, Black Musalee, Wavading, Murudsheng, Salavan, Chichardee, Bedakee, Anantmoola, Kuda, Gulavel, Nirgudee etc. are available here naturally. Animals like Bhekar, Tarat, Leopard, Bison, wild Boar, Bear, Rabbits, various types of snakes, rare species of frogs and toads, chamelions and beautiful birds like peacocks, dhanesh etc. are found in this area.
